FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) - Less than ideal road conditions have led to a number of car accidents in our area.
Auto body shops are beginning to fill up with wrecked cars that have become victims of slick roads and poor driving.
Every winter the number of rear endings and slide offs increase exponentially. To avoid this, experts recommend slowing down and giving yourself more time to reach your destination by leaving earlier.
No matter how much you prepare winter will always be the worst time of the year to be on the roads.
We asked Robert Freeman, the service manager at Berger Complete Auto Repair, when they see the biggest increase in auto collisions.
"Usually right after a first snow. If it snowed this afternoon we'd probably see a lot that stuff tomorrow. People get out, and they don't realize that the roads are as slick as what they are. And that is when you see it right at that first point."
Freeman says one way to better prepare your car for winter is to have it looked at to ensure you have proper fluid levels, new wiper blades, and a good battery. Some car repair shops will even look it over for free.
