FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) -- Two women are making a cross-country trek to raise money for awareness about multiple sclerosis.

Ashley Kumlien and Rachel Aldrich stopped in Fort Wayne Tuesday morning. Their journey began in L.A. in April and will end in New York.

Both have personal reasons for doing what they do.

"Our whole team in general, we've been meeting people just on the side of the road, talking and hearing their story about MS," Rachel said. "Just knowing that we're making a difference and seeing those faces is really cool."

"I have a passion for running and for this cause because it's so close to my family," Ashley said. "And then I'm just looking to find runners who are interested in something more out of their funning experience, and this is definitely something more."

The national Multiple Sclerosis Society says about 400,000 people have MS in the U.S. and 2.1 million have it around the world.
