FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) -- Civilians and officers with the Allen County Sheriff's Department were honored today for lending a helping hand in the community.
The ceremony was held at the Allen County Courthouse Friday morning. It was an opportunity for people to thank, and nonor those who stepped up and made a difference. One such man was Terry Bodine who had his life saved thanks to the quick thinking of Officer Kevin Surface this past August.
"When I got there he was unconscious laying on the kitchen floor. His wife was there. I saw that there was a need so I started CPR. Got an initial heartbeat back and then did CPR for about 4 or 5 minutes until the firefighters got there," said Officer Surface.
Officer Surface added that he merely acted on instincts.
