FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) -- If you've been considering adopting a new four-legged family member, consider doing so at the PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend, September 13 - 15, at more than 1,210 PetSmart stores, including local stores in Fort Wayne. Save a pet's life and enrich your own with the pure joy that only a tail wag can bring.
This weekend, for the first time, the Allen County SPCA will be offering same day adoptions for pre-approved applications.
"Now, many adopters won't have to wait to take their new pet home," said shelter director, Jessica Henry. "Some adopters have pre-approved applications on file with us already. We encourage them to come out to PetSmart this weekend, meet with the dogs and cats, and take their animal home the same day."
Adopters not currently pre-approved can still meet with the available animals, and through a streamlined process, when approved, may take the animal home the following day. All animals will be adopted on a first come basis.
"We are grateful to PetSmart Charities for their commitment to pet adoption," Henry said. "They have been a wonderful partner for our shelter, and we appreciate the opportunity to participate in this big, national effort."
Your pet adoption will benefit these local shelters and rescue agencies, including the Allen County SPCA; each will receive $35 in adoption-reward grants from PetSmart Charities for every pet they adopt in stores during this event.
"Adoption is one of the key ways to save pets and end pet homelessness, not to mention enrich our own lives with a loving companion," said Susana Della Maddalena, executive director of PetSmart Charities, Inc. "Thanks to generous donations from our wonderful supporters, PetSmart Charities funds hundreds of adoption events and awareness programs each year that help find homes for thousands of lovable and healthy pets."
