FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) – As classes wrap up for the holidays this coming Friday many parents are scrambling for babysitters or day care for their school-age children.

Luckily, programs like the YMCA and Science Central offer day care and day camps for children while parents continue to work.

Science Central offers day camp groups for ages 3-5 as well as 5-11. In the groups, kids get the chance for a hands-on look at a number of the exhibits. Full-day camp prices range from $30 for members to $35 for non-members.

Each of the YMCA branches offers various day care activities for children dependent on the location’s amenities. For that reason, prices can also fluctuate.

"The care that we offer is for kindergarten through fifth grade, and we do try to incorporate activities that involve all of the kids obviously,” says Colman McCanna, Director of Child Care Services at the Parkview Family YMCA. “Sometimes that can involve the older kids helping out the younger kids, but we do have activities that range all of those ages."

At the Parkview Family YMCA on Dupont Road for example, full-day day care costs $25 for members and $35 for non-members. For each additional child however they offer a 10% discount.

The National SAFEKIDS Campaign recommends no child younger than 12 years old be left at home alone. That age fluctuates of course, based on the child's maturity level.
