FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) - Allen County councilman Darren Vogt announced today he is running for the State Senate seat currently being held by Tom Wyss.

Vogt will be running for the District 15 seat, the one for which incumbent Tom Wyss announced in September he would not seek re-election.

After serving on county council for 12 years, Vogt says he believes change is good, which is why he decided not to run for council last year.

Instead, he hopes to focus on what he considers to be two important issues.

"You know I would look at two things," says Vogt. "I would really look at economic development and making sure the regulations for businesses are low and taxes are low. Then educational system is the other thing that is really important to us. You know, I've got 4 young kids, all still in public schools not private schools so understanding that school funding formula, making sure our students have choice in where they go to school and just making sure that we're setting our standards locally and not on a federal basis."

Vogt will be challenging current Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries and former city council member Liz Brown who have already announced their candidacy.
