FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) - Many Americans have already given up on their New Year's resolution, but employees at SIRVA Worldwide are just getting theirs started.

Due to a scheduling setback from winter weather, Tuesday's festivities had to be postponed, but SIRVA's new health and wellness program finally kicked off in style.

Festivities were started with a speech by Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Andrew Coolidge, followed by a presentation by keynote speaker Abby Rike, a competitor on season 8 of NBC's "The Biggest Loser."

The company-wide initiative encourages employees and their families to make healthier choices in an effort to promote healthy lifestyle changes. Through the program, employees earned points for reaching various checkpoints and milestones which they could use to purchase a number of incentives and prizes.

As far as the company is concerned, everybody is set to benefit from this program.

"We certainly see it as a win-win," says Coolidge. "From an employer and an employee standpoint it is something that can improve the health of our employees not only improving their health, improving their financial well-being consequently. And from an employer standpoint healthy employees lead to happier employees better serving our customers of course."

As Tuesday's celebrity guest speaker Abby Rike points out, programs like these tend to succeed because of the built-in support system that exists between co-workers.

"When you're trying to get healthy you can't do it in isolation. So whenever you have an entire corporation banding together to support one another, the success rate is going to be infinitely higher than when you try and do it alone."

SIRVA has partnered with Vitality Wellness who uses website and app-based technology to track each participant's progress.
