FORT WAYNE, Ind. (NBC33) - A lofty goal issued today by Mayor Tom Henry, hoping the city of Fort Wayne can lose a collective 500,000 pounds by 2016.

Mayor Henry is hoping to build a competitive atmosphere through the "Fight For a Fitter Fort" campaign, also known as "Operation F4."

He hopes local companies and organizations will take it upon themselves to challenge one another to various weight loss goals.

In fact, he is even getting involved himself.

While the weight loss is the key statistic being tracked, organizers say the program is truly designed to encourage exercise and healthier food choices.

"Weight loss is going to be a bi-product of what we are trying to do here. And that is create and sustain those healthy lifestyle habits," says Chris Blake who is a consultant with OpF4. "So don't get hung up on the weight, although that is our tangible goal, we want to do the things the right way to get there."

If you are interested in joining the Fight For a Fitter Fort campaign, you can register through their website www.opf4.com. All user information will be kept private, except for Mayor Henry's weight loss progress which can be tracked online as well.
