FORT HOOD, Texas (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- An AWOL US soldier faces federal charges he plotted to kill fellow soldiers in a terror attack.

21-year old Private Naser Abdo was arrested in Killeen, Texas on Wednesday.

Police found bomb-making materials in his hotel room.

Abdo, a muslim-American, was granted conscientious objector status when he refused to deploy to Afghanistan, but went AWOL from Fort Campbell, Kentucky this month after being charged with child pornography possession.

Police believe Abdo planned to attack and kill soldiers near Fort Hood.

Chief Dennis Baldwin/Killeen Police Department: "I can tell you that we would probably be here today giving you a different briefing had he not been stopped."

Police were tipped to the plot by a gun store owner who reported suspicious purchases by Abdo.

After his arrest, he reportedly told police he wanted to "get even" with the military.

This comes as former army Major Nidal Hasan, a muslim-American, is charged with shooting and killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009.
