COLUMBIA CITY, Indiana (Indiana's NewsCenter)-Jennifer Zartman Romano is a born journalist. On any given day you’ll find the Columbia City native traversing the streets of her hometown in search of news…gathering information, interviewing people..even shooting photos and videos.

“All day long pretty much I’m getting suggestions from people about stories and things that are happening in the community”, she says.

When Romano graduated from IPFW she searched for a way to stay in her hometown and use her new communications degree. She decided to go hi-tek, creating an online newspaper called ‘Talk of the Town’ a thorough, informative, colorful and entertaining website covering the whole spectrum of local events from news to sports, information to entertainment. Though the website focuses on the positive it does cover controversy, most recently the local battle over wind farms. Romano says she avoids things like car accidents and fires but will cover the human aspect of a bad news story.

“When somebody’s house has burned down it’s not ‘oh look their house is burning down’”, she says, “it’s ‘what can we do to help’”.

What Romano’s done is create a highly respected information source for the folks of Columbia City and Whitley County, an online newspaper that gives viewers a real sense of the local community…utilizing her journalistic gifts to the benefit of her neighbors.

“I think the ultimate goal is to showcase what a great community we have,” she says. “There’s a lot of unsung heroes here and there’s a lot of great stories that I don’t think get the attention they deserve and hopefully I give them some of that.”
