BLUFFTON (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - While other towns struggle to keep their economies afloat Bluffton's economy chugs along, navigating the eddy's of recession with small, positive strokes toward prosperity's shore.
'Slow and steady wins the race' is Bluffton's approach to fighting unemployment and it’s working. The town's economy is diversified, not tied to one industry and that's its saving grace.
Snack food makers are major employers here and snack food sales are recession proof. In fact as economic times get tougher, snack food sales jump.
Bluffton companies like Pretzels Inc. continue to add jobs as does Peyton's Northern, a distribution center for Kroger's and Bluffton's largest employer.
Down the road Alexin LLC, a metals recycler, adds jobs here and there as do local auto parts suppliers like Almco Steel Products, reborn since the rescue of the American auto industry.
It all adds up to a stable local economy that, while not thriving, is doing better than holding its own and able to take economic hits as other towns fold under.
