Good news for millions of Americans taking cholesterol-lowering statin drugs to help prevent heart disease and stroke. A brand new study finds these drugs work well-. with very few side effects.
Researchers looked at data from 1-hundred-35 previous drug studies that included nearly 2-hundred-50-thousand people ...They focused on the safety of seven statins currently on the market.
Their conclusion: adverse events are rare.
Statins did not increase the risk of cancer...
They were associated with a typically reversible increase in liver enzymes, but the level of liver toxicity was very low.
And while the researchers discovered a small increased risk of diabetes, they stress the cardiovascular benefits of statins far outweigh the risks.
