FORT WAYNE, Ind., (Indiana's NewsCenter)--The 2009 Fort Wayne Kid’s Marathon will be run as a part of the 2nd Annual Fort-4-Fitness Festival.

It's designed to encourage kids to exercise and to begin a healthy lifestyle that will continue for years to come.

Participating children in grades K-8 will run a total of 26.2 miles (a full marathon distance) over a period twelve weeks.

Students will be motivated to build endurance, increase self-confidence, and learn to reach goals.

Each participant will run/walk a total of 26.2 miles within the designated 12-week period (July 7 – September 25) in increments of one to two miles.

Each student will run with the training group and/or with their parent(s) and will keep a running log sheet to track his/her progress. Each parent, guardian or coach should assist the child in documenting his or her mileage.

Mileage is based on adult supervision and the honor system.

As each child completes their 26.2 miles on the Fort-4-Fitness course, he or she will receive a Fort Wayne Kid’s Marathon Finisher’s Medal and T-shirt.
