Free Tax Prep by IRS Volunteers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - United Way of Allen County and Volunteer Center RSVP have organized the Free Tax Preparation Program for Allen County to begin Saturday, February 2, 2013.

Any family or individual earning less than $57,000 annually qualifies for the Free Tax Preparation program organized by members of the Financial Stability Partnership. IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers help residents file their taxes and claim available credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Credits may help families get as much as a $5,000 refund.

Sites are also available in DeKalb and Noble Counties. Free tax preparation will take place from February 2 to April 13. Below are the following dates, locations and times:

Allen County
CANI, 227 E. Washington Blvd.
Monday, Tuesday 6 - 8 p.m. (closed 2/18/13)
Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1101 S. Lafayette Street
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 12 - 3 p.m. (closed 2/13/13)

Euell A. Wilson Center, 1512 Oxford Avenue

To learn more about the Free Tax Preparation program, residents may pick up a flyer at CANI, United Way, Volunteer Center RSVP or many other social service organizations. A flyer can also be downloaded from www.UnitedWayAllenCounty.org/initiatives. Or, residents may dial 2-1-1 and ask for information from a trained phone counselor.

Individuals with disabilities may get assistance by calling 2-1-1 to make an appointment. Active Military and National Guard personnel can receive assistance at all of the above sites by appointment by calling the Volunteer Center at 260-424-3505.
