FLORIDA (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - George Zimmerman the man who confessed to shooting 17-year-Old Trayvon Martin is out of jail Monday morning after an attempted quiet release in the middle of the night.
Around midnight, Zimmerman walked out of a Florida country jail on bond. To make bail, Zimmerman had to put up $15,000 of the $150,000 bond.
Zimmerman was fitted for an electronic monitoring device so the sheriff's office can identify his whereabouts anywhere in the U.S., at any given time. His destination is being kept secret. It could be outside of Florida.
Zimmerman's safety remains a concern. As he left jail, it appeared he was wearing a bulletproof vest. He did the same thing at his bail hearing on Friday.
Zimmerman claims he shot Trayvon Martin in self defense. At the bail hearing, the neighborhood watchman stunned the court by taking the stand offering an apology to Trayvon Martin's parents.
The start of the actual trial could be a year away. In the meantime, Zimmerman is required to follow a strict 7pm to 6am curfew.
The bond hearing for the man charged with murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, felt more like the actual trial. Including testimony from George Zimmerman, himself.
The judge heard arguments from the prosecution and the defense before deciding whether he would be allowed bail.
Included in the discussion was a new photograph of Zimmerman from the night of the shooting, obtained exclusively by ABC News, and may back up his account of what happened that night.
Zimmerman's account of that night is that the shooting was in self defense and Martin had repeatedly bashed his head on a concrete sidewalk.
Even if Zimmerman was injured, in a fight with Martin, it doesn't change the fact that the prosecutors clearly believe that Zimmerman was the aggressor.
Zimmerman's bail has been set at $150,000.
