NORTHEAST INDIANA (21Alive) -- The YMCA announced Wednesday that every 7th grader residing in Allen, Whitley or Wells county is eligible for a complementary membership at any of the six YMCA's of Greater Fort Wayne.
The YMCA says "students will thrive in a safe environment enabling them to grow in spirit, mind and body. Fun, youth programs will promote wellness and emphasize the value of a healthy lifestyle."
7th graders have been selected for the complimentary passes because according to the YMCA, research shows that 7th grade is a critical time in a person's life when exposure to risk factors greatly increase. It says the risk factors have been shown to increase the likelihood for unhealthy behaviors, including substance abuse, delinquency, teen pregnancy, school drop-out and violence.
As the parent or legal guardian, the YMCA asks that you bring proof of 7th grade status including residency to any participating YMCA during the month of September. The pass will last through Aug. 31, 2014.
Register at any YMCA in the following locations:
Central Branch on Barr St.
Jorgensen Family YMCA on Aboite Center Rd.
Parkview Family YMCA on Dawsons Creek Blvd.
Renaissance Pointe YMCA on Bowser Ave.
Wells Co. Family YMCA in Bluffton
Whitley Co. Family YMCA in Columbia City
