FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - For some shoppers, the final hours before Christmas are crunch time.
"I never seem to have time until the last minute, so when it's forced upon me to shop," said Justin Hedgecock.
"Sometimes we see some guys shopping for their whole lists. But most people are finishing up," said Adam Skaggs, Store Manager, Kohls, Northcrest Shopping Center.
Meagan Gibson shops with her family every year on Christmas Eve. She calls it a holiday tradition.
"I love giving gifts so waiting to the last minute, especially Christmas Eve, that's one less, that's another less day I have to keep it a secret, what I got people," said Meagan Gibson.
Shopping Christmas Eve does come with a strategy for Gibson.
"I usually never know what it is I'm looking for, for people. I usually just kind of go, and if something catches my eye I'm like, hey they might like that, and then I'll just go ahead and buy it," said Gibson.
"It always feel great when you can help somebody find that perfect gift at the last minute, relieve that stress that they have and just have some fun," said Skaggs.
No matter why they're shopping at the last minute, most of the shoppers agree shopping on Christmas Eve is always very festive.
"Yeah, I caught myself singing a few times," said Hedgecock.
"I just, I get all excited because I love Christmas. It makes me happy. It feels more Christmassy on Christmas Eve, when you're shopping," said Gibson.
But procrastination can come at a cost.
"My wife's good at shopping for deals. I don't look for sales. I just figure what I want to get and go look for it. I usually end up spending more not looking around like I should be doing. But last minute I think you end up spending more than if you were thrifty and really search for the deals," said Hedgecock.
Although Christmas shopping is over now the stores are still expecting crowds the day after the holiday.
"It's a lot of sales that day from gift cards, and exchanges and things like that," said Skaggs.
That's why many stores will open bright and early Thursday morning.
