Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - After overcoming cancer a Fort Wayne teen is now getting ready for the trip of a lifetime.
Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Macy's 17-year-old Kellcey Nichols and her family are going to Hawaii. To make sure she's ready Saturday she was given a shopping spree from Macy's.
Kellcey was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January. In November she was given word by her doctor that she was cancer free. It's been an emotional and stressful year for the family spending much of their time standing by Kellcey as she goes through treatment. Now they're happy to be spending time together, healthy and having fun.
"It's going to be nice to just go and relax and forget everything that we went through because I know they need to just get away, and clear their heads. It's been a long year so it's going to nice," said Kellcey Nichols, Hodgkin's Lymphoma Survivor.
“She's a very strong individual and I know that from this she's going to be strength for someone else down the road," said Yvette Nichols, Kellcey's Mother.
Although Kellcey may be feeling better now she's continuing to tell her story to raise awareness and money for research. This year she's the ‘Girl of the Year’ for the local chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which is part of a fundraising effort that brings in over $100,000 every year.
