COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (21ALIVE) --- A lot of us are ready for a break from the cold hard winter, and that even goes for a company in Whitley County that's making money off the snow and frigid temperatures.

It's been a profitable couple of months for somebody in the business of selling snow plow blades.

For W.A. Jones near Columbia City, every time there's a sound of a blade screeching on concrete, it's like the sweet sound of a cash register ringing.

W.A. Jones assembles blades and installs them on trucks that local governments use to plow streets.

An independent contractor who puts a blade on the front of his pickup to plow a strip mall parking lot or condominium development also comes to the business for help.

A sign hanging in one of the W.A. Jones buildings reads, "Let it snow".

The company, which started in the fur business back in 1880, has sold hundreds of blades in 2014 and has worked to repair countless others.

The outfit is making money, but it hasn't been a piece of cake.
“We’ve sold probably hundreds of plows, it's unbelievable. Just one day after another, we just keep trying to keep up and that's all we can do at this point," said Josh Moore with W.A. Jones.

The company itself has been bitten by the nasty weather.

Plows sitting out in a back lot a few weeks back got buried under a big snowfall, and then frigid cold temperatures followed, which froze the plows to the ground, requiring the staff to dig them out.

Employees have been working 12-hour days since Thanksgiving to meet customer demand that might pick up again early next week with another sizeable snowfall possibly headed our way.
