Nationwide Walmart Protest Comes To Fort Wayne

November 29, 2013 Updated Dec 2, 2013 at 11:47 AM EST

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- A dozen people gathered outside of a local Walmart on Black Friday in hopes of getting some attention.

The protest began Friday all over the country where nearly 1,500 people gathered outside to raise awareness for thousands of Walmart employees who make less than $25,000 a year. Protesters believe this is not nearly enough to make a living wage for the employees or their families.

One protester hopes that this demonstration will change the way Walmart pays its employees.

"If customers start demanding that employees be treated with respect, I think Walmart and I think corporate headquarters will take note of that," Dave Frank said.

The protest plans to last all day.
