FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - "There is always time for us to come together," said Harding Parent & Parents For Quality Education In 2010 Member Condra Ridley.

Uniting Pastors hosted Monday night's meeting at Turner Chapel A.M.E. Church.

Reverend Michael Latham told Harding parents the local pastor group has been in touch with the Indiana Department of Education, Governor Mitch Daniels' office and East Allen Superintendent Dr. Karyle Green.

Uniting Pastors wants East Allen County Schools to slow down their transition plan to close Harding High School.

Pastors are waiting on a Friday, January 7 phone call for more information from Indiana Department Of Education Superintendent Dr. Tony Bennett.

"If we come together and work together after the State Superintendent (Dr. Tony Bennett) have told us, they're willing to talk... to me that's a starting point," said Uniting Pastors Member Reverend Michael Latham.

Parents hope the new group will work closely with them.

"So I feel encouraged that we are going to garner more and more support. I want to put out a plea that we come to unity. This is a serious call to unity for this month. We need as many parents and students to come forward so that we can stand for Harding," said Ridley.

East Allen County Schools has created a Tuesday, January 18, 2011 deadline for parents to pick their top two choices for their child's next high school.

New school assignments will be mailed home on Friday, January 28, 2011.

Leo, New Haven, Heritage, and Woodlan will hold open houses for Harding students.

The New Haven High School open house is Tuesday, January 4, 2011.

EACS administrators want parents and students to ride schools buses from Harding's parking lot, to simulate daily bus rides.

Presentations are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
