(Indiana's NewsCenter) -- U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar met Thursday with Indiana National Guard Adjutant General R. Martin Umbarger and Col. David Augustine, 122nd Fighter Wing Commander, to discuss the impact of proposed cuts at the 122nd Fighter Wing at the Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base.
“I support efforts to seek savings in the Air Force budget and I believe that Fort Wayne can be part of answer,” Lugar said. “I will continue to work with General Umbarger, Governor Daniels, and the Hoosier congressional delegation to maintain a strong National Guard presence in Fort Wayne at the greatest possible value to taxpayers.”
Lugar praised the vigorous effort to show that cost saving benefits of a Fort Wayne operation.
