Coroner Rules Homicide: Tobacco Store Owner Killed During Attempted Robbery (VIDEO)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - The Fort Wayne Police Department said an attempted robbery led to the death of the owner of a tobacco shop.

Around 9:30 Monday morning, police say a customer found the owner of the Smoke House Tobacco Outlet, 2217 S. Lafayette St., down inside the building.

The owner, identified as Antonio Lopez Nino, 44, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but later died. According to the Allen County Coroner, Nino died from gunshot wounds in what has been determined to be a homicide.

Surveillance images provided by the Fort Wayne Police Department show the suspect with a gun in his right hand.

The suspect is a black man in a black and gray jacket and red baseball cap.

Anyone with information in the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 437-STOP or the Fort Wayne Police Department Detective Bureau at 427-1201.
