FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Exhausted, yet wired from their incredible journey, the bulk of the Voices of Unity Choir returned home to Fort Wayne early this morning.
The members arrived on buses at the IPFW camps around two A.M., and were greeted with shouts and cheers from the friends, family members and loved ones who gathered to welcome them home.
The choir wrapped up their more than week-long trip to China where they competed in the World Choir Games.
As one of only four American choirs invited to the competition, Voices of Unity emerged victorious, winning two gold medals in the Gospel and Spiritual and Popular Choral Music categories. Director Marshall White, still electrified with excitement, proudly hoisted the team's trophy and declared "now we have a World Champion title, the first in the city! the first in the state to be called World Champions! This is absolutely unbelievable!!"
Choir members will get today off to rest from their voyage. Fort Wayne leaders will celebrate the team by hosting a big welcome home party tomorrow at noon at One Summit Square downtown.
