FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Two out of three jobs require some type of post-secondary education. That’s why the Indiana Youth Institute is helping students prepare themselves to take full advantage of the help and services available to them.
The organization has introduced Trip to College text message alerts. These messages alert kids, parents, or councilors about tests, deadlines and financial aid information.
Sophomores might receive texts about the PSAT, whereas juniors and seniors may see texts about the SAT and scholarship opportunities. And parents can rest easy about the safety of the service.
"We also want parents to be reassured this is a very safe service. We've checked with legal folks. It is a protected service for kids 13 years and older. There's no interaction. They can't text back to anybody. They can only receive. So parents can be reassured this is a very safe service, as they and their kids get this absolutely essential information so their kids can get the post-secondary education they need, and be able to get a job when they're a young adult," said Bill Stanczykiewicz, President & CEO, Indiana Youth Institute.
If you’re interested in receiving the Trip to College text messages, text the word "grad" followed by your, or your child's high school graduation year to 69979.
