INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Education says ISTEP+ testing will resume Wednesday after computer glitches halted exams Tuesday across the state.

It was a second consecutive day of testing problems, Glenda Ritz, Indiana State Superintendent of Public Instruction, says.

"I am greatly disappointed to learn that Indiana schools had their ISTEP+ testing interrupted," Ritz said in a statement released by the Department of Education. "Like all Hoosier parents, students and teachers, I find these interruptions frustrating and unacceptable."

Around 11 a.m., there was a significant spike in testing problems, leaving Ritz to suspend testing statewide.

The DOE has extended the testing window from May 10 to May 15 to accomodate for the glitches.

"It puts a lot of pressure on these schools to make sure that students are performing at their peak on test days," Krista Stockman with Fort Wayne Community Schools says. "When things like this happen, it's not optimal. And, it's not because of our doing. It's not because of anything we've done wrong. So, I think it is frustrating."

Tuesday evening, Ritz announced exams are back on for Wednesday. However, she is asking schools to decrease test loads by 50 percent.

Even with the May 15 deadline in place, the DOE intends to work with districts to make sure all students are able to take the entire exam, Ritz adds.
