FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - It's not quite mid-August yet, but the new school year is now underway for the Northwest Allen County School district.

Thursday is the first day of classes for students and teachers. The district is the first of Allen County's four major school systems to kick off the 2011-2012 school year.

Watch for buses and more cars to be on the roads around Fort Wayne and Allen County's northwest side areas. School traffic will likely be heaviest along Carroll and Bethel Roads this morning.

Southwest Allen County Schools is the next Allen Co. district to go. Their school year starts Monday, Aug. 15. East Allen follows on the 17th followed by FWCS on the 22nd.

The school year is already underway for Imagine Schools on Broadway in Fort Wayne. They started on Tuesday as the school kicks off its new year-round program.
