AUBURN, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -- A seven-term incumbent Indiana senator must defend his seat in the primary, next year State Treasurer, Richard Mourdock, was in town Tuesday night for some Q & A.

He's running against Senior Senator, Richard Lugar for the Republican nomination arguing Lugar has abandoned his conservative roots.

Mourdock says he has a plan to cut 7.6 Trillion dollars from the national deficit in the next decade.

Recent reports show the state treasurer has the backing of several conservative tea party groups.
