FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -- State Senate President Pro-Tem David Long says a statewide smoking ban will get a hearing in the Senate.
Long says he isn't making guarantees on if it will pass or fail. A smoking ban has passed the House three times but has never received a Senate hearing.
If the bill passes, casinos and bars are expected to be exempt from the law.
"Things I'll be interested in as we work through this issue is exactly how we are grandfathering in the existing smoking laws,” says Pro-Tem David Long, “I've always been a local government person when it came to that. Let the local government decide what's best for them whether it's county or city. I think it will be important for us to protect those laws that are already in place."
The bill is currently awaiting a final vote next week in the house
