FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Fort Wayne is known as the city of churches, and one church is ensuring that remains by adding to theirs.
On Sunday St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church held a ground breaking ceremony for the renovation of the 25-year old church, and expansion of its educational facility.
Msgr. Robert Schulte, founder pastor of the parish and current Vicar General of the Fort Wayne South Bend Diocese, officiated the ceremony along with current Pastor Father Jim Shafer.
Excitement was in the air as the parish's dream becomes reality.
“I think for the community it's the fulfillment of a long time dream I mean we have everything in one place now that we need to be to offer a complete catholic parish program that is children of all ages as well as adults and it's finally here,” said Father Jim Shafer, Pastor at St. Elizabeth.
The expansion includes additional classrooms, a media center, and a new youth room, and the church will get a new choir loft, new bell tower, and a 24-hour chapel. It should all be complete by next fall.
