FORT WAYNE, Ind (21Alive) -- The newly renovated McMillen Community Center and former McMillen Ice Arena has damages adding up to $300,000, all at the hands of a squirrel.

21Alive spoke to Al Moll, the Fort Wayne Parks Director, who noted that the city will only have to pay a $50,000 deductible to have the damages repaired. The damages were the result of a squirrel getting into electrical equipment that created a power surge. The power surge damaged the center's heating and cooling system, along with parts of the boiler system. The squirrel did not survive.

The renovated McMillen Community Center is a 2 million dollar project paid for with money from the Legacy Fund. Legacy Fort Wayne was created by proceeds from the sale of the city light utility to Indiana Michigan Power and its funds are being used to create positive changes in the community.
