FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The popular sport from the Winter Olympics will "rock" Fort Wayne this weekend.
The new Canlan Ice Sports Arena off Wells Street will host the first annual Summerspiel, or Curling tournament Saturday and Sunday.
Officials say 160 players from 22 curling clubs from several U.S. cities will join Fort Wayne's club in the tournament. In fact, three generations of a local family will be involved.
Craig Fischer, the president of the Fort Wayne Curling Club, will be curling along with his 13 and 15 year old sons as well as his 77 year old father.
Fischer says the Vancouver Olympics along with the opening of the Canlan arena helped boost interest in their club. He and the other local curlers gave a demonstration of the sport live on Indiana's NewsCenter Today this morning. Jeff Bowman proved it's not as easy as it looks.
The tournament starts at 7:30AM Saturday. The finals are set to begin at 5PM Sunday. Anybody can go out to Canlan to watch the tournament. It's free and open to the public.
