Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv ) - Nationwide retailers asked shoppers to explore their own towns on Saturday, November 24 and support small businesses in their community's.

"It's going to help Fort Wayne be a better place," said Judy Fisher, Small Business Saturday Shopper.

Last year over 100 million people across the nation showed their support by shopping in their hometowns for Small Business Saturday. This year, it appears Fort Wayne is again doing its part to make sure 2012 sees another strong turnout.

"It's nice to see everybody in the community coming out to support these local businesses. It's a national shop local event and we really appreciate all the support we've gotten from Fort Wayne," said Cheryl Fabian, Co-Owner, OFabz Swimwear.

While many shoppers are looking to support their local businesses another draw for shoppers is the opportunity to find unique gifts.

"Things that you can't find at the, you know, the big box stores," said Fisher.

Small Business Saturday was started in 2010 by American Express. The goal is to help small businesses, or companies that are strictly online, grow.

"My daughter says that Fort Wayne is our marketing team," said Fabian.

OFabz is one of many pop-up shops that was downtown for Small Business Saturday. Their swimwear line is one example of an online business looking to expand. For the customers shopping small it's also about the experience.

"You get more, friendlier service, that's for sure, you know, because they're really excited that you're here. They're not just doing this as a job as much as, it's their livelihood," said Fisher.

The Small Business Saturday event encourages customers to continue shopping small through Cyber Monday.
