FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- Police are investigating a fatal shooting in the 900 block of Hugh St. near Hanna.

Police were called to the 900 block of Hugh St. a little after 12:30 Wednesday, to a fatal shooting. Officers located the shooting victim, a juvenile male, outside the rear of a home. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders.

Witnesses told police that multiple people were fleeing the area and a canine unit assisted in the investigation to attempt to track the suspect. The track terminated nearby.

A concerned neighbor who lives across the street says he saw two men chasing the 17-year-old victim with one of the men firing a gun.

"I saw him. And I ain't ashamed to tell nobody I saw him. And I ain't scared to tell nobody I saw him. May be about time for a lot of people to start speaking up. I'm not going to sit there and look at stuff and close my eyes and not say nothing about it. That could have been my son!" the neighbor told 21Alive.

The neighbor said the teen fell by a pine tree, then tried to get away but the other guy kept shooting, maybe six shots in all.

Because of witnesses like this neighbor and others, police got a good description of the suspects and combed the area looking for the suspects.

"I don't think I'm being premature in saying that we're dealing with gangs, drugs and guns," Chief Rusty York told 21Alive.

If the Allen County coroner rules this death a homicide, it would be the 15th in the county this year. Fort Wayne averages 25-30 homicides a year.

The concerned neighbor made this final statement to 21Alive, "he don't deserve it. Nobody deserve to be shot down like that. It's ridiculous, and I just don't understand. I want it to stop. That's all. Just want it to stop."

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
