Senate Adds $1,000 A Day Boycott Fines To Budget Bill

April 21, 2011 Updated Apr 21, 2011 at 9:51 AM EST

INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - An added provision to the state budget bill in the Senate would make $1,000-a-day fines for boycotting legislators law in the Hoosier state.

This provision comes after the five-week walkout done by House Democrats this session.

The measure allows a court to fine members after a three day absence if too few legislators are present for a quorum.

Democrats were fined a total of $3,000 by Republicans for the recent walkout.
