Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Military veterans held a rally at Lakeside Park in response to Fort Wayne’s VA Hospital suddenly shutting down its in-patient care units.
Democrat State Senate Candidate Tom Keen and Democratic Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives Kevin Boyd spear-headed the rally.
On Tuesday officials at the VA Hospital said they're "pausing" operations of the intensive care and acute medical units.
But keen says it's "suspicious" and doesn't believe it is temporary.
State Senate Candidate (D - 16th District) Tom Keen says, “I think this is a backdoor way for them to try and keep the hospital inpatient services closed. To keep that from happening we want them to know that the Veterans are upset about this and actually the general public's upset about it. We need to keep the VA hospital stay open.”
Keen says there are 25,000 veterans in Allen County alone.
3rd District Congressman Marlin Stutzman released the following statement about the temporary shut down of the Fort Wayne VA:
This community deserves nothing less than complete transparency from VA officials. Neither bureaucratic red-tape nor political posturing ensures the wellbeing of our veterans. Preserving quality inpatient care at our local VA continues to be one of my highest priorities and I will continue working to see that the VA resolves this matter in a timely and open fashion."
