May 8, 2014 Updated May 8, 2014 at 11:51 AM EDT

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Fort Wayne Attorney Robert Gevers will no longer be representing a Warsaw man charged in January's fatal shooting incident at Purdue University.

Cody Cousins, 23, appeared in a Tippecanoe County court this morning where Cousins and Gevers both testified that they don't trust each other.

The judge granted Cousins request to drop Gevers and a public defender was assigned to the case.

Cousins stands accused of shooting and stabbing 21-year-old Andrew Boldt inside a classroom on the West Lafayette Campus.
