WASHINGTON, D.C. (21Alive) -- In a press conference today, President Barack Obama announced he would be sending 300 military advisers to Iraq.

During the press conference, the President stated that he won't send combat personnel back into Iraq.

"We always have to guard against mission creep," the president said. "American combat troops are not going to be fighting in Iraq again."

Obama also told members of the media that John Kerry would be travelling to the Middle East and Europe to discuss the situation in Iraq with world leaders.

However, the President did also state that the U.S. is "prepared to take targeted and precise military action if and when we determine the situation on the ground requires it."
