WASHINGTON (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - President Obama staunchly defended his decision to compromise with Republicans in temporarily extending the Bush-Era Tax Cuts for all Americans.
The President says while he understands the many Republicans and Democrats wanted a political fight over the issues, he was not willing to hurt millions of Americans who are already living on the edge.
President Obama says, “My job is to look out for middle class families who are struggling right now to get by and Americans who are out of work through no fault of their own. A long political fight that carried over into next year might have been good politics...but it would be a bad deal for the economy and it would be a bad deal for the American people."
The President reiterated his vow to fight any long-term protection of the wealthy against higher income tax rates.
