FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A man was detained and released after an attempted shoplifting investigation from the Do It Best near Sycamore Hills Golf Club.
The Fort Wayne Police Department says the man ran with a girl in his arms from the Do It Best through Sycamore Hills, ultimately crossing through the pool area.
Police say a security guard noticed the man and the child, and gave chase, concerned the man had abducted the child from the pool.
Police were already near the area and a Junior PGA event was in progress at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club.
Police finally captured the man in the 1800 block of Turnberry Lane.
Police say the mother of the child waited in a vehicle in the Do It Best parking lot throughout the chase.
The girl, who was not harmed, was determined to be the man's daughter.
Police say no charges will be brought against the man, but add the security guard did exactly the right thing.
”When the security guard spotted him, of course, he believed he was witnessing an abduction. He believed that this man who was sweating profusely, running through the area with a child in his arms, he thought it was suspicious. And rightly so. And he called and reported what he believed to be an abduction,” says Officer Raquel Foster, a FWPD spokeswoman.
Police drove the little girl back to the hardware store, where her mother was waiting in a car with three other children.
Police want to remind you that if you see something, say something, like the security guard did.
