COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- A man is behind bars after leading police on a chase and then crashing into the Columbia City BMV.

Monday at approximately 10:30 p.m. the Columbia City Police department responded to a call of a stolen vehicle in the area of Countryside Drive. Officers arrived and were told the suspect, Danny C. Rose, 20, was suicidal and possibly in possession of a handgun.

Police say they were able to attain information on the whereabouts of Rose and the stolen vehicle, leading them to 400 North just east of State Road 9 in Whitley County. Officers from the Columbia City police department and the Whitley County Sheriff’s department responded to the area.

When police arrived at the location Rose pulled out of a driveway and fled the area in a white Pontiac Grand Prix. Officers pursued Rose south on SR 9 towards Columbia City. He then turned onto Liberty Drive and drove his vehicle into the BMV building at a high rate of speed.

Officers took Rose into custody and he was transported to Parkview Whitley hospital with minor injuries. After being released from the hospital Rose was transported and booked into the Whitley County jail with charges of auto theft, resisting law enforcement and reckless driving.

The License Branch will be closed until further notice and they are directing customers to the Waynedale Branch in Fort Wayne, the Warsaw Branch or the Huntington Branch. The Albion Branch is also available and is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
