Pioneer Water Rate Case: Public Hearing July 11

June 25, 2013 Updated Jun 25, 2013 at 4:06 PM EST

LEO-CEDARVILLE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor encourages customers of Pioneer Water, LLC to comment on the utility’s pending rate case.

Consumers may speak at the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) public field hearing on Thursday, July 11, 2013, or send written comments to the OUCC anytime between now and the close of business on Friday, July 19, 2013.

The July 11 IURC public field hearing will be held in the Leo-Cedarville Park Pavilion (9825 St. Joseph St.). The OUCC will conduct an informational session on the regulatory process at 5:30 p.m. with the IURC accepting public comments beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Sworn oral and written comments regarding the rate case will be accepted during the field hearing. Oral and written consumer comments carry equal weight and will become part of the case’s official evidentiary record. Commissioners are not allowed to answer questions during the field hearing. (However, OUCC and IURC staff will be available before, during and after the hearing.)

Pioneer Water, an investor-owned utility providing service to more than 400 customers in Allen County, is seeking a two-phase rate increase and IURC authority to issue up to $185,000 in debt. For a residential customer using 5,000 gallons per month, the monthly water rate would rise from $35.00 to $48.68 upon issuance of a Commission order, and would then rise to $57.01 after the utility completes its financing.

According to its filing with the IURC, the additional revenues would cover the costs of water tower improvements and increased expenses for operations and maintenance. Pioneer Water’s current base rates were approved in 1998.

The OUCC – the state agency representing consumer interests in cases before the IURC – is reviewing the utility’s request and has not yet taken a position in this case. The OUCC is scheduled to file its report and recommendations with the Commission on July 25, 2013.

More information on this case, including the utility’s filing, is available online at www.in.gov/oucc/2739.htm.

Consumers who wish to submit written comments in this case may do so via the OUCC’s Website at www.in.gov/oucc/2361.htm, or by mail, email or fax:
