HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – An Ossian man is in critical condition, after police say he shot himself during a traffic stop in Huntington County early Wednesday morning.

According to police 44-year-old Douglas Vieth had shot through a door at his ex-girlfriend's apartment in Franklin, Indiana just before 11 PM Tuesday night, striking her in her arm. Vieth was attempting to enter her apartment but was denied entrance.

He then fled the scene and was spotted driving in Huntington County around 3 AM.

Police say he refused all commands to drop the gun, and shot himself three times in the head.
