NE INDIANA (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Help a child get ready for school and get a free small drink at the same time.

Now through August 8th, all area McDonalds restaurants are collecting backpacks and school supplies for 'Operation Backpack.'

This is a program through the United Way and is supported by Indiana’s NewsCenter and Two Men and a Truck.

McDonalds is rewarding every donation with a free Mango Pineapple Smoothie or any other small drink.

McDonald's Operations Manager Mark Klinker says, “McDonalds wants to support the communities that they're in. All over NE Indiana there are communities that the school districts are struggling a little bit and we just want to give back to the community.”

If you need help with school supplies for your student, just call "211" and ask about 'Operation Backpack.'
