FORT WAYNE, Ind (21Alive) -- It is open firearm season for deer hunting in Indiana, where an estimated quarter million Hoosiers will participate.
Beginning this morning through December 1st, Indiana hunters will be able to hunt deer with a legal firearm and a proper deer hunting license. Firearm season is the most popular phase of deer hunting season according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
In a press release the Indiana DNR reminded hunters to "Follow the rules, practice ethical hunting behavior, and have an enjoyable safe time in the woods."
The Indiana DNR also stressed that, although extremely rare, most accidents during hunting season involve falls from tree stands. DNR director Cameron Clark reminded hunters "Invest in a quality safety harness. It's the least expensive life insurance policy you'll ever buy."
