MONTPELIER, Ohio (www.incnow.tv) – How would you feel if staff members at your child's school were able to carry a concealed weapon on school grounds? A school district in Ohio just voted to expand Second Amendment rights onto school property.

In what some may consider the final line of defense against school violence, the Montpelier School Board voted unanimously to approve the right for staff members to carry concealed handguns during the day. But before you get too worked up, understand there are stipulations in place to ensure this new policy is handled “the right way.”

The new policy states a selected few staff members will be hand-picked by Superintendent Dr. Jamie Grime – but this does not include teachers. Those selected will then undergo rigorous tactical training in mid-March.

Dr. Grime wanted to stress the biggest reason behind implementing this new policy is the safety of our children.

“The reason we took this measure is because the safety of the kids here is my number one, top priority,” Grime says. “Me and the Board of Education feel as though this just gives us one added measure to increase the security that we have in this building.”

While the rules were approved at Wednesday night's board meeting, there likely won’t be any firearms in the schools until April at the earliest.

After talking to a handful of parents in Montpelier in line to pick up their kids, a majority of them were in support of having weapons in school. They agreed with the superintendant that times have changed.

Dr. Grimes also praised the board in their groundbreaking decision, saying many school districts around the country may start following their lead.
