Fort Wayne, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- State Democratic Party officials are acting like they dodged a bullet when Republican Richard Mourdock defeated Senator Richard Lugar in Tuesday night's GOP Primary.

Mourdock trounced Lugar by more than 20 points.

Democrats say most Hoosiers will reject a Tea Party backed candidate in November.

In 2009 as State Treasurer, Mourdock filed suit to block the Chrysler bailout plan.

Donnelly is criticizing Mourdock for that move.

Joe Donnelly (D) U.S. Senate Nominee says, "He tried to destroy in our part of Northern Indiana, the lives of thousands and thousands of people in Kokomo."

Richard Mourdock(R) U.S. Senate Nominee says, "To those who think that somehow we should be threatened by this race, I have but two words for Joe Donnelly, bring it."

The fall election is November 6th.
