FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - On Monday, members of the Fort Wayne Plan Commission met to discuss a primary development plan for the former Kroger building at Spy Run Avenue and East State Boulevard.
Larry Hamilton spoke on behalf of Uptown Storage, a self-storage company interested in transforming the empty grocery store into a climate controlled self-storage facility.
The plans also call for the development of a gas station on the property and possibly a restaurant.
Even with the added business, project developers are confident traffic won’t be increased in the area. Hamilton says cameras at Uptown Storage’s other locations indicate the facility would only average 24 customers per day during the week and about 32 on weekends.
Currently neighborhood residents would have to travel north to Coliseum Boulevard to reach the nearest storage facility.
The proposed facility will contain two floors of storage units, ranging in size from 5x 5’s, 10x 10’s and 20x 20’s.
