MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - The deaths of nearly 100 animals found at a Madison County Farm could have a couple facing 113 criminal charges.
Daniel and Carrie Ault have been accused of multiple felonies which include two counts of Neglect of a Dependent, and 96 counts of Improper Disposal of Dead Animal. The charges also include 15 misdemeanor counts of Cruelty to an Animal.
The animals were discovered by police in April at a farm near Elwood after responding to a complaint by a neighbor. Many of the animals were transported to a safe location.
Investigators say that, for a time, the Ault family lived in extremely unsanitary conditions in their barn.
Police were told by Daniel Ault, who runs the Strawtown animal auction with his wife, that he became overwhelmed after recently purchasing a meat packaging company.
