INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Thousands of prescription drugs went up in flames in Indianapolis Tuesday.

The prescription drugs were collected over the weekend at several special events.

According to State Police, more than 1300 pounds of pills and 50 pounds of liquid medication were collected.

The nationwide program asked people to voluntarily give up prescription medications to help curb a growing abuse problem.

Those drugs were incinerated Wednesday morning in Indianapolis.
